Overview
Pump Station is one of the smaller Eno River access points with only four miles of trails. This section takes its name from the old pump station which provided water to Durham from 1887 to 1927. The remains of the pump station and other old structures still stand. Trail difficulty is easy to moderate.
Landmarks
Foundation of Durham's first water pump station along with the dam, Coon Foot island, remnants of an old hunting lodge, and the mostly intact Guess Mill Dam and Guess Mill.
Location
Eno River State Park is located in Durham and Orange County. Pump Station Access is located off of Rivermont Rd in Durham. From Raleigh, take Hwy 70W to Hwy 85S, then take the Cole Mill Rd exit. Turn right onto Cole Mill Rd and take it for about 2.6 miles. Turn right onto Rivermont Rd immediately before the stop light at Sparger Rd. Rivermont Rd will turn into a gravel road. After crossing the small bridge, you can park on either side of the road. The Pump Station Access trailhead is located on the left side of the road beside the bridge.
