Harris Lake County Park features numerous amenities including picnic areas, ample parking, shelters, fishing pier, playground, and a disc golf course. In addition to the 5 miles of hiking trails, there are 7.7 miles of trails exclusive to mountain bikes. The Peninsula Trail is an excellent hike, with moderate continuous elevation change.

The park is sometimes closed to the public, so make sure to check the current status at the official website before planning your trip here.


Peninsula Trail (5 miles, moderate)
This trail is a series of loops, so hikers can choose how far to hike. There are also multiple interpretive guides at the trailhead for the different loops. This trail goes along the shore of Harris Lake where you can get a good view of the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, then it takes you into the woods and through the historic Womble homesite with interpretive signs.
Typical lake and forest animals. White-tailed deer, turkey, fox, owl, hawk, great blue heron, seagull, songbirds, fish, turtle, snake, frog, lizard.
